At a Winetech Vinpro Information Day, wine grape producers in the Robertson region can equip themselves with the latest vineyard management trends and practices for periods of low water supply.
The regional information day will be in a digital format on May 6, 2020 from 8:30 to 11:30.
PLEASE NOTE: Given the COVID-19 lockdown and health and safety considerations, the Information Days will take on a webinar format, with online interaction. Persons who have registered will receive a link to the online webinar platform 24 hours before the event.
“The Winetech Vinpro Information Days are held annually in May and September in six different regions, focusing on the technical viticultural trends and advice relevant to each grape growing area,” says Conrad Schutte, manager of Vinpro’s consultation service.
Over the past few years, wine grape producers in the Robertson region have had to learn to adapt to drier cultivation conditions. Dr Albert Strever of Stellenbosch University will give a preview of the effect of reserves on vineyard performance in the upcoming season and share tips on adapting practices should the season be characterised by low water reserves.
Stoney Steenkamp of Stoney Agricultural Services will advise on cover crops in low rainfall areas that are under drip irrigation, after which Abie Vorster from Netafim shares the importance of, and good practices when maintaining irrigation systems. Rico Basson will provide an overview of the effect of the Coronavirus on the SA wine industry.
“We encourage all wine grape producers, winemakers, viticulturists, suppliers to the wine industry and other interested parties to equip themselves with the important information shared at regional days,” Conrad says.
Attendance costs R150 per person and registration is compulsory. Persons who have registered will receive a link to the online webinar platform 24 hours before the event.
