Wine grape producers in the Worcester and Breedekloof regions can equip themselves during the Winetech Vinpro Information Day with the latest vineyard and cellar industry trends and practices.

The regional information day will be held in a digital format on May 14, 2020 from 8:30 to 11:30.

PLEASE NOTE: Given the COVID-19 lockdown and health and safety considerations, the Information Days will take on a webinar format, with online interaction. Persons who have registered will receive a link to the online webinar platform 24 hours before the event.

“The Winetech Vinpro Information Days are held annually in May and September in six different regions, focusing on the technical viticultural trends and advice relevant to each grape growing area,” says Conrad Schutte, manager of Vinpro’s consultation service.

The Worcester and Breedekloof regional session will range from broad wine industry trends to specific vineyard and cellar interventions. Yvette van der Merwe of the SA Wine Industry Information and Systems (SAWIS) and Christo Conradie of Vinpro will give an overview of the state of the wine industry in turbulent times, with particular emphasis on the effect of the corona virus.

On the vineyard side, Dirk van Eeden of Inteligro will share the successes and challenges of chemical control over the past season and Stoney Steenkamp of Stoney Agricultural Services will provide recommendations on the use of cover crops in low rainfall areas that make use of drip irrigation.

“We encourage all wine grape producers, winemakers, viticulturists, suppliers to the wine industry and other interested parties to equip themselves with the important information shared at regional days,” Conrad says.

Attendance costs R150 per person and registration is compulsory. Persons who have registered will receive a link to the online webinar platform 24 hours before the event.
